As soon as the Lok Sabha met, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj accused the UPA government of misusing the CBI to “protect some from the clutches of law, to trap others and to keep the Damocles sword hanging on yet others to serve the narrow political ends” of the ruling coalition.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal strongly refuted the allegations.

The BJP has been stepping up its tirade against the government for misusing the CBI ever since the premier investigating agency questioned Gujarat’s former minister of state for home Amit Shah in connection with the Sohrabuddin encounter case a few weeks ago.
Gujarat IPS officer Geeta Johri’s allegation that the CBI was pressurising her and other police officials to implicate some top political leaders in the encounter case added fresh ammo to the BJP’s arsenal.

Swaraj said the probe agency was misused and cited reports about Johri’s allegations against the CBI. The BJP MPs demanded discussion on the issue in the House.

As the Speaker rejected the demand, the protesting MPs trooped into the well of the House and raised slogans. Kumar then adjourned the House till noon.
