Skill development training programmes for unemployed youth are helpful to generate self-employment, opined Dr M Mahadevaiah, chief executive of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering-Software Technology Entrepreneurs Park (SJCE-STEP).

He was speaking at the valedictory of two months skill development training programme on ‘Industrial Wiring and Panel Meter’ organised by SJCE-STEP and Industrial Training Centre (ITC) in Chamarajanagar recently.Dr Mahadevaiah said that there is a shortage of technicians in both urban and rural areas. The trained candidates have ample job opportunities, he observed. He said that important topics including electricity, its utility, electrical accidents and remedial measures, electrical wiring system were explained in theory as well as with practical demonstrations.

Electricity shortage

He mentioned that despite generation of electricity by different sources such as hydroelectric, thermal, atomic, wind mill and by bagasse in sugar industries, there is a shortage of electricity in the country. Since most the participants are from rural areas, this training can be optimally used in rural areas, he said.

He said that by adopting honesty, sincerity and hard work, youth could mould their future for better living and for the progress of the society.

He advised participants not to waste the knowledge acquired in training. Dr Mahadevaiah said that during recruitment, preference will be given to candidates who have undergone such skill development programmes.

Attractive schemes for financial assistance with subsidy from Central and State Governments are available he said.

Certificates were distributed to 30 candidates who participated in the programme.
District Employment Officer, Chamarajanagar, Uma, ITC-Chamarajanagar, principal, Erappaji, SJCE-STEP, project assistant Basavarajeshwari J S were present.
