5 drown, 2 missing on black Saturday

 Three boys met with a watery grave at sea near Kadle in Kumta taluk in Uttara Kannada district on Saturday.

Police said Akeeb Ajmeer Sab (14),  Akram Aslam Sab (15) and Riyaz Muneer Sab (13) went to swim in the sea and drowned.

The body of Akeeb Ajmeer Sab (14) was recovered near Vannalli and search operation for the other two bodies is on.

The boys were from Masooru Cross and Halakar. Congress leader and industrialist Yashodhara Naik visited the families of the boys and offered financial help.

Man, son die

A man and his son drowned in the Narayanappa tank near Kanakapura on Saturday, while immersing a Ganesha idol.

Satish (55) and his son Kartik (24), were residents of Kote and owners of Srinivas Coffee Works in Kunigal. The incident occurred when Karthik slipped into the tank while immersing the idol, and Satish attempted to save him from drowning.

Two missing

A man and his nephew are feared drowned at the confluence of the Tunga and Bhadra rivers at Kudli in Shimoga district on Saturday.

Gurumurthy (35) and his nephew Devavrata (10) of Andhra Pradesh, were on a pilgrimage to Kudli.  Devavrata accidentally slipped into the river and Gurumurthy jumped into the river to save him. The bodies are yet to be recovered and police continued the search till late Sunday evening.
