Bernadette Quirk, 55, also illegally buried a fourth dead baby in a cemetery.

At Liverpool Crown Court, Quirk, of St Helens, Merseyside, she spoke only to confirm her name, address and admitted concealing the births.

The Sun Tuesday reported that the dead babies included twins. Police have said that they were wrapped in newspaper and rags and kept in a small plastic bin with an air freshener.

Quirk told investigators that she delivered the four girls at her home between 1985 and 1995 after her marriage ended, causing her to start excessive drinking.

The dead babies were spotted by Quirk's daughter Joanne Lee last June.

Her barrister Ian Morris said she did not know exactly when the babies were born and could remember only three.

After the hearing, police official Neil Bickley said that Quirk had a "chaotic lifestyle" in the late 80s and "a number of sexual encounters".

She had moved home several times, taking the bodies with her, the media report said.
