Girish Kasaravalli had also won national awards for four of his earlier films: Ghatashraddha (1977), Tabarana Kathe (1986), Thai Saheb (1997) and Dweepa (2001).
Eminent theatre artiste Arundathi Nag won the best supporting actress award for her outstanding performance in Paa.
The movie ‘Putaani Party’, directed by P N Ramachandra, won the Best Children award, The Best Book on Cinema was awarded to Dr K Puttuswamy for his book ‘Cinema Yaana’, which narrated 75 years of Kannada Cinema.
