The private airlines have evinced interest to operate flights from Mysore-Bangalore-Chennai and vice-versa and the Airport Authority of India and the Director General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) has cleared the hiccups for the operations, said MP Vishwanath here.
At a meeting convened by the Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM) to discuss the status of the airport at the Institution of Engineers on Friday, he said the authorities have informed him that the flight operations would begin from first week of October.

When Deccan Herald contacted Rajeev Gupta, the officer-in-charge of Mysore airport, he confirmed the development, but added that it is likely that the private airliners who would run special flights for dasara will extend it as a regular feature.

Back in the meeting, C A Jayakumar, Head of Travel Parkz, a travel and tour operator informed the meeting that he has received confirmation from Kingfisher airlines to run flights for six-days during dasara. The fare for Chennai is fixed at Rs 3,000 and Rs 2000 for Bangalore. The airlines has also sent us a departure and arrival timings to pick and drop the visitors who have booked in advance, he said.

On the occasion, Jayaram, assistant director of tourism said the Government had extended 50 per cent subsidy for the airline operators.

The tourism and infrastructure department have together proposed for running flights from the key metros like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune, the officials said.
Earlier, M Lakshmana of ACICM demanded details on plans for the expansion of the airport and the proposal to 1000 acre additional land for the second phase.

In his reply, Vishwanath said that the issue had to be resolved in tandem with the sentiments of the farmers in the region. The acquisition has turned out a real-estate business, he regretted.
