Last Updated 18 September 2010, 17:37 IST

Inaugurating the facilities, Vice Chancellor Suresh Honnappagol said the facilities were among the best in the country. "We were told Chennai had the best facilities in the country, but now we can say we are on par with them," he said.

Dr S Yathiraj, Dean, Veterinary College, said services would be available at a nominal cost from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, while routine services would be extended between 3 pm and 9 pm.

Dr L Ranganath, Professor and Head, Department of Surgery and Radiology, said the specialised facilities were indeed life savers and would address spinal injury and many orthopaedic problems.

New courses

The Vice Chancellor said 17 students have joined food and dairy programme launched this academic year. On the other initiatives, he said an exclusive canine institute would be set up to conserve certain species of indigenous dogs like Mudhol hounds. Forty acres of land has been allocated at Thimmapur on Mudhol-Bagalkot road for this purpose. He said that an exclusive dog show of Mudhol hounds would be organised shortly.

He said a Chinese delegation had visited the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals where the 18 horses have been quarantined. These horses will be taken to China by the Indian athletes for equestrian events in Asian games to be held in November in China.
