'Gandhi's thoughts to life only way out'

Last Updated 21 September 2010, 17:33 IST

Delivering a talk on “Relevance of Gandhi in 21st century India” at Gandhian Study Centre, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College here on Monday, he said Mahatma Gandhi was at least two centuries ahead of his age and he should be rightly called as ‘Father of cosmopolitan.’

Gandhi was never dogmatic in his approach. Rather, his whole life was an experiment. It is true that his principles seem to be very close to Hinduism and sometimes to Christianity, but he never shared particular religion as his community. He negated religious fanaticism in the world, he added.
Unlike Islam, Buddhism and Marxism, Gandhi never presented any plethora of ethics. His theories of truth and non violence are simple approaches and experiments, rather than conclusions of scientific research.

Gandhi’s research is still going on and it will go on till there is humanity on earth. His views pose an ever increasing divergent graph than the convergent graph of conclusions. Divergent graph is always more scientific, holistic than the convergent graph with close ended point of conclusions and dogmas, he added.

Nation’s identity
Asserting that Gandhi never shared chauvinism, Goswami said Gandhi believed in nation’s identity as a member in the family of nations in the world rather than a Hitlerian approach of ethnic superiority of particular nation.

The type of liberal patriotism of Gandhi is the model for the future of world politics in current and all forthcoming centuries. Gandhi’s Ahimsa can not be established as a religion. His concept of ahimsa is the only solution for world peace. Violence of any kind is reminiscence of barbarianism and primitive state of society. A nation waging war against its neighbour is as uncivilised as an animal pouncing on another animal for satiating its hunger, he added.

He said Gandhi was against the indiscreet exploitation of natural resources and human resources.
Today world’s economy is based on reservoirs which are totally against Gandhian ideologies.

Gandhi preferred compulsory inculcation of reading, writing and arithmetic in the educational process, he added.
MGM Principal Dr P Venkatramana Gowda, Dr A Srinivas Rao from English Department and others were present.
