Coast Guards, NCC cadets, cops clean beaches

About 450 people including NCC cadets, Coast Guards and members of various organisations took part in the coastal clean up day programme at Panambur beach.

Coast Guard Commandant (JG) Rajender Singh Sapal, who led the programme said that the programme is being organised every year to create awareness on coastal cleanliness among the public. “It is our duty to preserve the coasts clean so that tourists especially foreigners will love to visit our nation. Everyone of us have the responsibility of keeping beaches clean,” he added.

There is a need to create awareness on coastal environment among people, he said adding that the present generation should present a clean coastal environment to the future generation.

Coast Guards Commandant Padam Shekhar Jha’s wife Poonam Jha inaugurated the programme. The NCC 6 Karnataka Air Squadron sent 100 cadets to Panambur beach to clean the beach surroundings. Squadron Commanding Officer Yashwanth Marchino led the team.

The programme was organised in association with MRPL, Corporation Bank, Panambur Beach Development Project, Rotary Baikampady, KMC Hospital, AJ Hospital and the District Administration.

Tannirbavi

The programme at Tannirbavi was organised by the Coast Guards in association with the Mangalore Coastal Security Police.

About 200 volunteers including NCC cadets, students and memebrs of various organisations took part in the coastal clean up day programme held at Tannirbavi beach.

Coast Guard Commandant S C Patnaik presided over the programme while Commandant Arun Kumar, Police Sub Inspectors Amanulla and S R Shridhar were present.

Students, teachers of NMPT High School, Kulur High School, Sagara Rakshaka Dala and other volunteers took part in the programme and cleaned the beach.

Meanwhile, more than 300 volunteers including students of NITK participated in the programme at Surathkal beach.
