New social forestry policy soon: Minister Vijayshankar

He promises to fill up vacancies in next six months

Addressing a news conference here on Saturday, he said an experts committee will be constituted to draft the policy. Steps would be taken to fill up vacancies in the department within six months. Plans are afoot to regularise the services of daily wagers wagers working in the department from many years. Reservation will be given to educated tribals during recruitment drive. The State Forest Act will be suitably amended in this regard, he added.

The minister said the government wants to involve private organisations in tree plantation and conservation of forests. Directions are issued to cut all the eucalyptus trees in and around Chamundi Hills. The fruit bearing plants will be planted there. The development of Chamundi Hills would be taken up on PPP model. “I will review all the developmental works implemented in forests that may affect flora and fauna. The night safari will not be allowed in Bannerghatta National Park. I will discuss this issue with Tourism Minister Janardhan Reddy”.

The long pending Hubli-Ankola railwayline would be taken up only after getting opinion of local population.

Deputy Conservator of Forest Ambadi Madhav and District BJP leaders were present.
