Last Updated 29 May 2018, 18:59 IST

Senior Congress leader C K Jaffer Sharief on Tuesday said he has urged the Congress high command to make his grandson Rahman Sharief a MLC in the coming elections to Karnataka Legislative Council.

Rahman had sought to contest the recently concluded Assembly polls from Hebbal constituency in Bengaluru. But he gave it up as per the party’s decision. “I have spoken to all the senior leaders of the party and urged them to make Rahman a MLC,” Sharief told reporters. The elections for 11 seats of the Council is scheduled for June 11. MLAs are the voters in the elections.

The Congress, which has 78 MLAs, can elect four members. May 31 is the last date for filing nomination papers by the candidates.
