A voter opted to challenge vote under the rule 49MA of RP Act in an incident at Yellur near Padubidiri.

Veerendra Lancy D’Souza alleged that the paper slip generated by the VVPAT showed the name and symbol of a candidate other than the one he had voted for.

The Presiding Officer obtained a written declaration from him on the veracity of the allegation. His complaint, however, was proved false and then, the presiding officer filed a complaint accusing the voter in question of falsely claiming that his vote went to a wrong candidate/party.

Padubidri police are awaiting the court’s permission to register a case and arrest him, Udupi Superintendent of Police Nisha James said.
