Known for treading off beaten track, director Vijay does the “Lagaan”. Only that while the story, script and treatment are as painful as a crick in the neck, the movie which reminds you of “Titanic”, however, takes one down memory lane when Chennai was Madras.

Like Aamir’s “Lagaan” here too a cherubic “firangi” falls for the doughtiness of a Tamil dhobi who doubles up as a wrestler and takes on the British. With Indian Independence as its canvas, “Madarasapattinam” tracks the courtship and eventual confrontations the lovers face. Aarya is all biceps and brawn and Amy Jackson is fetching as the besotted beauty.  Go sans expectations and enjoy!
