Srinivasa Kalyana
Kannada (A) Cast: M G Srinivas, Nikhila Suman, Kavitha Gowda, HG Dattatreya, Achyut Kumar, Priyanka Rao, Vidya Venkataram
Director:  M G Srinivas

Written and directed by M G Srinivas, who plays the title role, Srinivasa Kalyana is a tongue-in-cheek comedy aimed at today’s urban youth.

Below-the-belt cheeky dialogues are the film’s mainstay. The humour, which could have been more subtle, is entertaining though.

The film revolves around its gay protagonist’s romantic dalliances as he pursues love, suffers a series of heartbreaks, and wonders about life’s purpose and salvation. He wades through six phases of mind’s quest — Kama (lust), Krodh (anger), Lobh (greed), Moh (attachment), Ahankar (ego) and Matsarya (envy).

That the female leads paired with Srinivas, aka L K Balu (pun intended), have no qualms about uninhibitedly mouthing bawdy dialogues is bold for comfort and quite disconcerting.

Despite sagging at times, Srinivasa Kalyana makes for a timepass watch over weekend, with ensemble acting by a convincing cast. Yes, mast maja maadi!
