Farmers stage protest

Last Updated 02 January 2019, 17:59 IST

Demanding action against the officer who has failed to protect the files related to farmers land, the members of Rajya Raitha Sangha started an indefinite protest in Chikkamagaluru from Wednesday.

Protesters demanded justice and shouted slogans. Protestors said, “A few farmers in Mudigere taluk had applied for availing copies of land documents. However, the officer issued an acknowledgement stating that the documents were not available in the office. Action should be initiated against the officer on the charges of dereliction of duty under the Public Records Act 2010 and 2013.”

“The deputy commissioner had filed a complaint to the police three years ago on the theft of files by a Shirasthedar in the taluk office. Unfortunately, the case has not seen any progress. A few officials in the Revenue Department in the district are allegedly facing criminal cases,” they said.

The authorities could not issue cultivation chits for several beneficiaries owing to the non-availability of documents and files in the taluk offices, they added.
