Hunting for the perfect bride

In an attempt to impress the boys and their would be sasu maas, the 10 eligible girls will put their best foot forward through the various tasks that will get them closer to winning the coveted title, while viewers continue to support them with their votes. Incidentally, the five boys are also all set to display their grit by undergoing various tasks that will test their physical and emotional abilities to win the Perfect Bride.

Commenting on the launch of the show, Niret Alva, Chairman, Miditech said, “It doesn’t get more intense and personal than this. Prospective brides and grooms, all incredibly eligible and ready to marry in a closed system with believe it or not, the boys’ mothers for company, not to mention Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita Rao and Shekhar Suman.”

The show promises to deliver high drama with an array of emotions like jealousy, intense rivalry, happiness, enthusiasm and love as the girls find the perfect balance between winning the boy’s heart and also, at the same time matching his mother’s expectations to become India’s Perfect Bride. According to Anupama Mandloi, Sr Creative Director, Star Plus, “Perfect Bride sets out to highlight one of the most important elements of Indian culture, the arranged marriage, with a format which allows the participants to get to know each other while shortlisting their perfect bride.”

Shekhar Suman, who is already busy on TV as a judge with Sony TV’s Comedy Circus feels that there is actually no perfect bride in the whole world, because no one is perfect and that the idea of the show is to make perfection out of imperfection. Amrita Rao, who is foraying into the small screen for the first time as a mentor with this show, is of the opinion that in today’s times, the small screen has become even bigger than the big screen, with several stars from films opting to be seen on TV.

When asked whether he would use the platform to choose the perfect bride for his actor son Adhyayan, who has just split from his actress girlfriend Kangana Ranawat, Shekhar very cleverly replied that Adhyayan has decided that for the next ten years he would not think of getting married because he wants to focus on his career as an actor. Shekhar added that he and Malaika would function as reality checks for the participants, since they can give useful tips to the participants. Amrita Rao will function as the dream check, since she will be able to empathise with the mindset of the unmarried participants since she herself is a bachelor girl.

According to Anupama, over  the last six months, Star Plus had already started hunting for participants for the show by going through matrimonial columns in various newspapers and shortlisting the candidates. “We made it a point to select only those participants in the show who are keen on getting married.” The show will follow a traditional pattern and all the boys will be allowed to meet the girls of their choice only under the supervision of the girls’ mothers.

The show will end with a grand wedding with the consent of both parties, with a grand prize worth Rs 25 lakhs to the winning couple. It now remains to be seen whether the show clicks or flops, the way a similar show like the one that Madhuri Dixit did on Sony TV a few years back. Like the five boys and the ten girls, let us also keep our fingers crossed!
