<p>The single track, Why this kolaveri di, sung by superstar Rajnikanth’s son-in-law, Dhanush, for the forthcoming film 3, Aishwarya R Dhanush’s maiden directorial venture, has caught the attention of all and sundry. <br /><br />The entire nation is raving about it. The number, composed by newcomer Anirudh, and written and sung by Dhanush, is a huge hit all over, especially on Youtube and social networking sites with views that run well over a million. <br /><br />Even mega-star Amitabh Bachchan and leading entrepreneur Anand Mahindra seem to be smitten by the song. “Just heard Kolaveri di after much talk on it... it’s so original and catchy...congrats, Dhanush and Aishwarya (Rajni’s daughter),” Big B wrote on his micro-<br />blogging page.<br /><br />Thinking back on how it all began, Aishwarya says, “When I narrated the <br />situation, which was about a love-lorn youth expressing his agony in a funny way, Anirudh composed a tune and Dhanush penned some dummy lyrics for it. Anirudh (the music composer) and I found his lines to be suiting the situation as well as the tune. So, we decided to use it officially.”<br /><br />She adds, “And we wanted Dhanush himself to sing it since there is nothing serious about the song and the lines. There was no need for a professional singer.” And the rest, as they say, is history.<br /><br />Anirudh, who is a close relative of Aishwarya, says, “Before becoming a full-fledged director, Aishwarya was making short films and I composed music for all of them. So, she wanted to introduce me as a music composer in Kollywood with 3.”<br /><br />On the Kolaveri saga, he says, “When you listen to the song, you find a simple tune with earthy lyrics. I guess that is the biggest strength of Kolaveri. We really didn’t expect the song to become such a massive hit. It’s the result of team effort.”<br /><br />Even before the song was released, a rough cut of it was leaked on the internet. “It was, in fact, because of the leak that we had decided to release Kolaveri as a single track before the official audio launch. And the decision has helped us in a real big way. We are in a way thankful to the one who leaked it on the net,” says <br />Aishwarya, in a lighter vein.<br /><br />Says Dhanush, “It took me only six minutes to pen Kolaveri. My lyrics are simple and I made sure the words I’ve used are understood by everyone. All the words in the lyrics are regularly used. However, we don’t look to use it in a song. That’s the highlight here.”<br />“I agree that the lyrics are absolute nonsense and are written in ‘tanglish’. That’s probably why people can relate to it,” Dhanush adds.<br /><br />Even as top B-schools are doing case studies on Kolaveri and attempts are on to take it to Bollywood (Abhishek Bachchan may croon to the number along with Dhanush), the 3 team is now getting ready for the release of the complete music album. <br /><br />The buzz is that Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan, the two top stars of Tamil cinema, would be attending the audio launch event, which is expected to take place in Chennai this month. <br /><br />While Aishwarya, the director, is the elder daughter of superstar Rajnikanth, Shruthi Haasan, the heroine of 3, is the elder daughter of the ulaga nayagan, Kamal.<br /></p>
