Govt women’s college gets Rs 11.10 crore for facelift

The Department of Collegiate Education has given a financial approval of Rs 11.10 crore for the Government First Grade College for Women at Vijayanagar 4th Stage for taking up various development works for the year 2019-20.

The college at Vijayanagar, 4th Stage, Belavadi, has received funds for works, including construction of classrooms, science laboratory, library block and restrooms for students.

The college lacks basic facilities, including a compound wall. After Rs 40 lakh was sanctioned under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) with a 60:40 ratio sharing by the Central and State government, the works on the compound wall, seminar hall and four classrooms have been undertaken.

In addition, 10 classrooms, four science practical laboratories, a separate library block and two restrooms will be constructed at a cost of Rs 11.10 crore. Already, there are 800 students in the college. Most of them are from rural areas and economically backward backgrounds.

At present, the college has courses, like BA, BCom, BSc, BBA and Master of Arts in Kannada Literature. The college has plans to introduce two master degree courses --- MSc in Chemistry and MCom from the year 2019-20.

Speaking to DH, Principal B K Sathish Babu said, “It is good that the government has sanctioned Rs 11.10 crore for various development works of the college. Basic facilities will help to create a healthy environment to provide qualitative education”.

The Department of Collegiate Education has also given financial approval for various development works in the state, including in Mysuru district. The colleges, like Maharani’s Science College for Women, in Mysuru; Government First Grade College, KR Nagar; Government First Grade College, Hunsur; Government First Grade College, Kuvempu Nagar, Mysuru; Government First Grade College (W) Vijayanagar, Mysuru; Government First Grade College, Bilikere, Hunsur taluk; Government First Grade College, Nanjangud; Government First Grade College, T Narasipur; Government First Grade College for Women, Hunsur; Government First Grade College, Siddartha Layout, Mysuru; Government First Grade College, Hullahalli, Nanjangud taluk; Government First Grade College, Sargur; Maharani’s Arts College, Mysuru; Government First Grade College, Hangod, Hunsur taluk; have got the financial aid for various development works.

In the district, Maharani’s Arts College, Mysuru, has got the highest financial aid of Rs 15 crore.
