The inmates, aged between 13 and16 years and convicted for various crimes, including murder, escaped late on Friday from the juvenile centre near Kotwali in Muzaffarnagar, around 350 km from Lucknow.
Police inspector Vinod Kumar Sirohi said a search is on and that the staff is also being questioned.
