CBSE notifies system for assessment

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) students of Classes VI to IX will be assessed separately for their performance in the scholastic and co-scholastic areas from the academic year of 2017-18.

Tweaking the continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) system, the school board has done away with the system of giving 40% weightage to the students’ performance in co-scholastic areas and 60% weightage to scholastic areas in their overall assessment of an academic year.

The board on Tuesday notified the revised system for assessment, examination and preparation of report cards for Classes VI to IX for its implementation from the upcoming session to begin from April this year.

Under the revised system of assessment, schools will conduct written examinations for classes VI to IX in two terms—half yearly examinations in the first half of the session and a final examination at the end of the academic session, for all the subjects. While both the half yearly and final examinations will be held for a total of 80 marks each, each of the periodic assessments to be held before the half yearly and the final examinations will carry a total of 20 marks, according to the CBSE notification.

In the final examinations to be held at the end of the academics session for Class VI, questions will be asked from the entire syllabus covered during the second term and 10% of the syllabus covered during the first term.
