Chavan, who was the minister of state (personnel) in the prime minister’s office (PMO), and moved the file containing the name of the controversial P J Thomas as one of the candidates for the post of the Central Vigilance Commissioner [CVC], explained his position to the party chief during the meeting.
The meeting was scheduled earlier to discuss Chavan’s likely candidature for the MLC seat in Maharashtra. He is not yet a member of the state legislature.
Chavan has been under attack after Singh told Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that it was the MoS [personnel] who sent the file to the CVC selection panel.
