<p>Lucknow: Famous classical singer and Padma vibhushan Pandit Channulal Mishra died on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur town after a protracted illness.</p>.<p>Mishra’s daughter, Namrata Mishra, said that the singer breathed his last at her residence in the wee hours of Thursday. The doctors had said that he had a chest infection, and his hemoglobin level was also low.</p>.<p>He was discharged from the hospital after three weeks, after which he had been living with his daughter in Mirzapur.</p>.<p>Mishra, who hailed from Azamgarh district, was known for recitals of ‘thumri’ and ‘sohar’ and had taken part in performances across the country and abroad.</p>.<p>Mishra was also one of the proposers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter contested from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in 2014. He was awarded Padmabhushan in 2020.</p>.<p>Mishra was born at Hariharpur village in Azamgarh district on August 3, 1936. He was one of the prominent representatives of the ‘Banaras Gharana’ of music. His albums ‘Ram Virat’ and ‘Thumri Mehfil’ are still very popular among lovers of classical music.</p>.<p>Music lovers and politicians expressed grief at the demise of Mishra and termed it as a huge loss to Indian classical music.</p>
