Delhi High Court raps AAP-led govt for 'dragging its feet' on tabling CAG reports in Assembly

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday rapped the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi for dragging its feet in tabling Comptroller and Auditor General's report, observing it raised doubt on their bona fides.

Hearing a plea by BJP MLAs, a single bench of Justice Sachin Datta said the government should have promptly placed the CAGs reports before the House for discussion.

"The way you dragged your feet raises doubts about your bona fide. You should have promptly forwarded the reports to the speaker," the court said.

The bench felt the government should have initiated a discussion in the House.

"The timeline is clear, you have dragged your feet to prevent the session from happening,” the bench said.

The Delhi government counsel, however, asked the how the sessions could have been convened with the elections coming up.

Opposition leader Vijender Gupta and BJP MLAs Mohan Singh Bisht, Om Prakash Sharma, Ajay Kumar Mahawar, Abhay Verma, Anil Kumar Bajpai and Jitendra Mahajan filed the petition last year and sought a direction to the speaker to call a session of the assembly for the purpose of tabling of the CAG reports.

Earlier, the Delhi Assembly Secretariat had claimed before the court that tabling the CAG reports on city administration in the assembly wouldn’t serve any purpose since the assembly's term ends in February.
