After Delhi High Court, Bombay HC receives bomb threat; judges, litigants vacated from courtrooms

Mumbai: The Delhi High Court and Bombay High Court received bomb threats, sending the police, security and intelligence agencies in India into a tizzy.

The court premises had to be vacated for a few hours because of the threat, after which the police and bomb detection squads, sniffer dog squads swung into action. However, after thorough check the twin threats turned out to be hoaxes. 

This is perhaps for the first time that two important and busiest high courts of the country have received threats simultaneously. 

All judges adjourned their board and stopped the hearings before leaving their courtrooms even as lawyers, counsels and court staff left the premises and so did the litigants. 

As soon as the Bombay High Court in the Fort area of Mumbai received the threat, the building was evacuated as per the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and a search operation is currently underway with the help of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and a dog squad. “The bomb threat was a hoax,” a police official said. 

The Delhi High Court threat too was a hoax.

“As per the SOP, bomb detection teams and a dog squad are inside. We have checked it and found it to be a hoax," New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahla told reporters.
