‘Jeopardises trial process’: HC Bar body demands rollback of LG’s virtual deposition order

The August 13 notification designating police stations as VC hubs has triggered a sharp pushback.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Bar Association has condemned the recent notification of the lieutenant governor (LG) allowing police personnel to virtually present evidence in courts from police stations.

The executive committee of DHCBA has demanded the withdrawal of the notification, saying it is against the principles of fair trial.

"The executive committee of the Delhi High Court Bar Association is of the firm view that the notification ought to be withdrawn as it is against the basic tenets of justice and principles of fair trial. Its implementation will jeopardise the trial process and will adversely impact the outcome of such trials," DHCBA said in a resolution.

In the August 13 notification, the video conferencing rooms in police stations were declared as "designated places," from where the police officials can depose before the courts via video conferencing.
