<p>New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off BJP’s campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections on Friday with a veiled attack on Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal for expenditure incurred in the renovation of the Delhi CM’s residence when the AAP convenor headed state government.</p><p>“The country knows that Modi never built a home for himself. But in these past 10 years, four crore poor citizens have been given houses. I could have also built a ‘Sheesh Mahal’. But my dream was to give my citizens a house,” Modi said at an event in outer Delhi after inaugurating a slew of projects including slum development and low-cost housing schemes worth Rs 4,500 crore.</p><p>The reference to ‘sheesh-mahal’ was in the context of BJP’s recent campaign against Kejriwal, whom the party has accused of spending crores of rupees on the upkeep and renovation of the CM residence. Kejriwal’s promise of integrity and transparency has been proven wrong, he said. “The CM had to resign due to the liquor scam. The benefits of PM Ayushman scheme have been denied to the people of Delhi,” he said.</p>
