L-G office accuses Delhi govt of approving demolition of 9 temples last year

The office of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Thursday said the AAP government approved the demolition of nine temples across the city last year, accusing the ruling party of indulging in cheap politics.

This accusation came a day after Delhi Chief Minister Atishi wrote to the lieutenant governor, claiming that a religious committee' under his authority had, during its meeting on November 22, ordered the demolition of six religious structures, including Hindu temples and a Buddhist place of worship, in various parts of the city.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted people on the 'Urs' of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, and handed over a ceremonial 'chadar' to Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju to be offered at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah.

The 'chadar' will be offered on his behalf at the famous shrine of the sufi saint in Ajmer.

While Prasad's remark was made light of by his own son and heir apparent Tejashwi Yadav, the Congress, which is RJD's ally in Bihar, said it would "welcome" the JD(U) boss if he demonstrated that he was a true follower of Mahatma Gandhi and dumped the BJP, which was "Godsewadi".
