India signing trade, mobility pacts to create global opportunities for youth: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said India is entering into trade and mobility agreements with multiple nations to create new opportunities for its youth at home and abroad, highlighting the government’s focus on employment generation and global engagement. He made the remarks while addressing the 18th Rozgar Mela virtually, where he also distributed more than 61,000 appointment letters to newly recruited young candidates across various government departments.

“India is signing trade and mobility agreements with several countries. These trade agreements are bringing new opportunities for the youth of the nation,” PM Modi said in his address, underscoring that enhanced international cooperation will open doors for skilled young Indians both within the country and abroad.

Modi said that as one of the youngest countries in the world, India must leverage its demographic advantage by creating pathways to employment that extend beyond domestic borders. “Our government’s continuous effort is to create new opportunities across the country and the world for India’s youth,” he added, referring directly to the trade and mobility pacts.

According to official statements and government releases, the Rozgar Mela was organised across 45 locations nationwide, with beneficiaries joining ministries and departments including Home Affairs, Health and Family Welfare, Financial Services and Higher Education. Since the initiative’s inception, more than 11 lakh appointment letters have been issued through successive rounds of the employment fair.

Beyond trade and mobility agreements, the Prime Minister also touched on India’s broader economic growth narrative. He highlighted large investments in modern infrastructure, which have significantly increased jobs in construction and allied sectors, and pointed to the rapid expansion of India’s start-up ecosystem. “Today, there are about two lakh registered start-ups in the country, and more than 21 lakh youth are working in these,” Modi said, noting that the Digital India initiative has helped create a “new economy” in fields such as animation and digital media.

Modi also linked the reform push with increasing opportunities for youth, saying that ongoing policy reforms and foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows are helping generate employment and enhance global trust in India’s economic model. “India’s creator economy is growing at a very fast pace, and this is creating new opportunities for the youth,” he said.

The Prime Minister framed the distribution of appointment letters as more than a job allocation, calling them an “invitation to nation-building” and a pledge to contribute to a vision of Viksit Bharat. He also tied the moment to recent national celebrations, noting that the event coincided with historical constitutional milestones and cultural festivals, adding symbolic significance to the start of the year for young job-seekers.

With India continuing negotiations on various bilateral and multilateral trade pacts, the government views expanded mobility frameworks as central to connecting youth talent with global opportunities while strengthening the domestic employment landscape.
