Indian diplomat meets Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Muttaqi

New Delhi: Amid escalating tension between New Delhi and Islamabad, India on Monday reached out to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

New Delhi sent a senior diplomat to Kabul to meet the high-ups in the so-called government, which the Taliban set up after wresting control of Afghanistan in August 2021.

Anand Prakash, a joint secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs, met the acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban Government, Amir Khan Muttaqi, who called for strengthened ties and noted that Afghanistan would offer promising investment opportunities for companies based in India.

Muttaqi also urged New Delhi to ease travel between India and Afghanistan, He urged India to restart regular visa issuance processes for Afghan traders, patients, and students.

Prakash told Muttaqi that India remained committed to providing ongoing assistance to Afghanistan.
