India's Got Latent remarks row: Supreme Court orders return of passport to Ranveer Allahbadia

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh relaxed the condition after Assam and Maharashtra governments said the investigation against him was complete.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the release of the passport of YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia from the Maharashtra Cyber Crime Bureau to enable him to travel abroad.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh allowed the plea, in a relief to the podcaster.

The order came on his plea for clubbing of the multiple FIRs registered against him for his controversial remarks during an episode of India's Got Latent.

Allahabadia has deposited his passport with Thane police station.

While extending the interim protection to Allahabadia, the bench noted he has cooperated with the probe agency.

The court was informed that the investigation in the FIRs registered against him in Assam and Maharashtra has been completed.

Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, appearing for Allahabadia, asked the court to club the Assam and Maharashtra FIRs, saying that both of them pertained to the same show.

The court, however, noted the Guwahati FIR contained certain specific allegations which are not present in the Mumbai FIR.

On March 3, 2025, the court allowed Allahabadia to resume his show but cautioned him that his programmes must be within standards of "decency and morality".

On February 18, the court provided him relief, saying no coercive action against him for his alleged obscene remarks he made on a YouTube show India's Got Latent, while reprimanding him for his indecent remarks.

The petitioner had made those alleged obscene remarks — on controversial comments on parents and sex on social media — in his YouTube show India's Got Latent.

The court had then issued notice on his plea and stayed his arrest in the FIRs filed in Maharashtra and Assam, subject to him joining the investigation.
