IndiGo flight chaos: Couple forced to attend own reception on video call; netizens say 'give them extra compensation'

You might have seen a wedding party happen without balloons, flowers or noisy firecrackers — but is it even possible to have the celebration without the main couple, the newlyweds? Sounds strange and almost impossible, but that’s exactly what happened, when a bride and groom couldn’t reach their own reception because of sudden flight-schedule chaos. Well, a video of a couple is going viral on social media, suggesting they failed to make it to their own function due to flight cancellations.

It is being reported that the couple had to board an IndiGo flight that got caught in the massive wave of disruptions this week. The pair was among the hundreds of passengers whose travel plans got affected after sudden and major flight disruptions in the airline.

To the unversed, earlier this week, Indigo cancelled over 300 flights, leaving allotted passengers stranded and airports crowded across major Indian cities.

The video of this newly-married couple comes amidst the Indigo flight chaos. It captures how the unlikely situation forced them to virtually attend their own wedding reception.

The reception was reportedly planned at Karnataka’s Hubballi. Several relatives managed to walk in, but the twist - the bride and the groom couldn't. So who graced the stage? Well, it was the bride's parents.

Sharing details about the incident, news agency PTI, stated that the couple identified as Megha Ksheerasagar and Sangam Das tied the knot in November and had their reception planned on December 3. However, due to Indigo flight issues, they only managed to attend the event online.

Both are said to be software engineers working in Bengaluru.

"My daughter's wedding happened in Odisha on November 23 and we had organised a reception at our native place in Hubballi for people here. The flight kept getting delayed and at the last moment, at around 4 am, it got cancelled," the bride's father Anil Kumar Ksheerasagar told PTI.

"I didn't know what to do as relatives and guests had come from so many places. I was stressed, but then I quickly decided to do it online," he added.

In the now-viral clip, the woman was heard saying, in Marathi, "Flights got cancelled. We were unable to get any other flight. We are sorry." She apologised for not being able to attend their wedding reception in person.

Meanwhile, the footage showed invitees seated in the audience seats and some heading to the stage.
