Indo-French satellite in 'good health': ISRO

"Megha-Tropiques has been put in its final orbital configuration...The satellite is in good health," ISRO said in a press release here.

ISRO's Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) in Bangalore took command and control of the Indo-French satellite after it separated from PSLV rocket launched from Sriharikota on October 12.

Besides India and France, 21 scientific teams from Japan, Australia, Brazil, Italy, Korea, Niger, Sweden, UK and USA are waiting for the data from the satellite, it said.

The satellite, a joint endeavour of ISRO and the French National Space Agency Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales will study the water cycle and energy exchanges in the tropical region.

Megha-Tropiques is the second of its kind after the USA-Japan joint mission -Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission launched in 1997.
