Jaipur project breathes life into river

With eyes on the upcoming Assembly polls, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Wednesday inaugurated the ambitious Dravyavati River Rejuvenation Project.

The project, which has been executed by Tata Projects Limited, is spread across a 47.5-km-long rain fed riverfront of Dravyavati river, which flows through Jaipur city.

Around 16-km of the riverfront has been completed and work is on along the rest of the stretch.

The project aims to reduce pollution, create green spaces and treat 170 million litre of sewage water everyday.The 170 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant developed under the project will add to city’s water sustainability efforts and will also address the issue of sewage disposal.

Once a source of water, Dravyavati river had turned into a sewage drain.

The removal of encroaches also helped restore the river.

Tata Projects Limited officials said that the project has jogging tracks along the river banks which are lined with more than 17,000 trees, shrubs, and ornamental plants.

Spread over an area of 36,000 square meter, the plant has electronic sensors to control the inflow of waste and ensure the quality of discharged water.

The entire process is monitored through a command center at the plant.

The project is also equipped with public announcement systems that can be used in emergency situations.

Moreover public toilets at 45 locations around the course of the river will be constructed.

For added security, CCTV cameras of high resolution have been installed with backup-power systems and cabling at key locations.
