Jaya rewards team for nabbing extremists

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha on Tuesday announced a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh besides promotions for each member of the Special Investigation Division (SID) team, which nabbed three extremists wanted in several important cases, including involvement in the murder of BJP state secretary auditor Ramesh.

Hailing the efforts of the team, she said all the 20 members, who worked tirelessly to nab the culprits, would receive Rs 5 lakh in cash, besides getting a one-grade promotion.

Jayalalitha said that inspector S Lakshmanan, who sustained serious injury during the storming operation and was recovering in hospital, would receive a special cash award of Rs 15 lakh. “The government will bear all the medical expenses of the inspector,” she said in a statement.  She said, “Due to the selfless, sincere and alert service of police officers and constables, not only were the suspects in many cases arrested, but it also prevented many untoward incidents.”
