VenugopM Cal, Nazeer Ahmed (both Congress) and H M Ramesh Gowda (JD-S) on Thursday were declared elected unopposed to the three vacant seats in the Legislative Council.

Returning officer M S Kumaraswamy handed over the certificate of election to the winning candidates. The BJP had decided not to field any candidates as the party lacked the required numbers to win the seats. Members of the Legislative Assembly form the electoral college for the election. Thursday was the last date for withdrawal of nominations. While Venugopal and Ahmed will have a tenure till June 30, 2020, Gowda will have a tenure till June 14, 2022.
