The Lokayukta police of Bijapur have arrested three policemen, while accepting a bribe of Rs 4.50 lakh from a resident of Bangalore.
Sahilali Mahammadali Khan, a resident of Yelahanka New Town had complained to the Lokayukta police, that his second wife Asma had lodged a complaint at Gol Gumbaz police station in Bijapur stating that her husband had gone missing.
The police tracked Sahilali down and brought him to the police station and took his platinum chain and a Hyundai car.
The five policemen-- Sub inspector Shivappa Yamanappa Maradi, Assistant Sub inspector Amasidda Siddappa Katavi and constables Imranali Jinnasaheb Kotnala, Laxman Godekar and Basavaraja Hadlageri-- demanded a bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh to return the car and the chain.
While Maradi, Katavi and Kotnala were arrested by the Lokayukta police, while accepting the bribe, constables Godekar and Hadlageri managed to escape. Efforts are on to trace them.
