4 killed after truck crashes into cars on Karnataka's National Highway

Hubballi: Four people were killed on the spot when a truck crashed into two parked cars at Belligatti cross bridge on National Highway-48 in Dharwad district in the wee hours of Saturday.

The deceased were standing near the parked cars that were involved in an accident half an hour earlier after shifting four occupants of the cars to Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital in Hubballi.

The deceased have been identified as Manikanth (26), Pavan (23), Chandan Gowda (31) of Arkalgud of Hassan and Harishkumar (40) of Ramamurthy Nagar in Bengaluru. Another person severely injured in the accident was shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi.

Five people who were heading to Goa from Arkalgud in Hassan, parked the car beside the highway near Belligatti cross bridge. A speeding car that was heading to Shirdi from Bengaluru with four people, crashed into the parked car. Four people injured in the accident were shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi in an ambulance.

After shifting the injured to the hospital, five occupants of both cars were waiting near their cars when the speeding truck hit them, resulting in the death of four of them.

Dharwad superintendent of police Gopal Byakod and other officers visited the spot.
