62 students taken ill after breakfast

It is said that the students started vomiting after consuming breakfast.

As many as 20 students have been hospitalised and remaining have been sent to the school after first aid treatment. Abdul Rauf, K Haider, Ibrahim Bathish, Jafar, Mohammed Naseer, Kabeer, Mohammed Jakhir, Hussainar, Siraj, Arfaz, Sarfuddin, Ashfaq, Mohammed Irshad, Siraj, Muneer, Siyabuddin are serioulsy ill.

The school has 142 students. The students from Muslim community, coming from different parts of the district, study in this residential school. Students from the sixth to 10th standard study in this school. The school functions under the Social Welfare department of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat.

Shortage of water

The residential school suffers from various problems including shortage of water. Earlier, a borewell was dug to supply water to the school. However, the water was contaminated. As a result, water was supplied through tankers. Few days back, another borewell was dug in the school premises and students started using the water from Monday.

The food was prepared from the same water on Tuesday morning. The sample of the food prepared in the residential school has been sent for testing.
