Police on Wednesday confiscated another 636 antique gold coins from daily wage workers. The coins were found while digging a toilet pit at a house here in Haradanahalli recently.
As many as 93 gold coins were found while digging a toilet pit here on Monday. When interrogated, the four workers Kumar, Suresh, Sundar, and Nanjunda confessed to have another 106, 168, 179 and 183 gold coins each.
With this, the number of gold coins confiscated since Monday has gone up to 729, said District Superintendent of Police S Rangaswamy.
According to the archaeological department’s confirmations, the coins date back to 200 years and most of them belong to the Thanjavur and the Maratha age.
Ten of them belong to Mysore Wadiyars’ times, the police said. A case has been registered at the East police station.
