` 66 cr for development of Harangi canals: Bommai

A sum of Rs 66 crore has been earmarked for the development of left and right canals of the Harangi reservoir, said Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai.

Speaking to presspersons here recently, he said a sum of Rs 35.50 crore has been earmarked to repair left canal of the Harangi and Rs 31.25 crore for the right canal.

The lift irrigation should be beneficial to the farmers. The project will benefit 12 villages in and around Kanive.

The minister said the foundation stone will be laid for the garden on the model of Brindavan Gardens near Mysore at Harangi within 20 days. After laying the garden, tourists will be allowed to view the reservoir.

To a query on removing silt in the reservoir, he said removing the silt is a challenging task. The issue will be considered.

The minister said the Water Users Association will be reconstituted.

Two rounds of meeting has already been convened in this regard.

Pooja for rains

The minister with his family visited Bhagamandala Bhagandeshwara and s temples and offered special pooja for rain.
