<p>Hubballi: Aequs Private Limited, which operates aerospace precision manufacturing SEZ in Belagavi, toy cluster in Koppal and consumer durable goods cluster near Dharwad, has planned to increase the number of jobs created in these three clusters in North Karnataka region to 20,000 in the next five years.</p><p>Aequs chairman and CEO Aravind Melligeri revealed this, also highlighting the importance of the manufacturing sector in employment generation and contribution to the country's development. "We want to see more than 20,000 people working in three clusters in the region in the next five years," he said.</p><p>Speaking after receiving the honorary doctorate degree certificate from the KLE Technological University (KLETU) in Hubballi on Wednesday, he stated that all had predicted that the SEZ in Belagavi would be a failure, but it is so successful now that it can compete with anybody in the world.</p><p>"India was left behind in manufacturing due to lack of infrastructure and access to capital, when IT sector was growing big. Unskilled labour and unemployment were also the major problems. As manufacturing units in bigger cities can't survive mainly due to high price for land, we started the aerospace precision manufacturing SEZ in Belagavi, and started training freshers," Melligeri said, recalling his journey of venturing into the manufacturing sector.</p><p>Stating that everybody has a scope of impact to bring changes in their surroundings, Melligeri said one has to contribute to the society irrespective of his or her profession.</p><p>Also explaining how he developed interest in mechanical engineering, robotics and computer science, Melligeri advised students to keep open the options in which they are interested. Curiosity in learning, commitment, and hard work were also among the tips given by him. "Have a long-term vision, split it into small chunks and execute them," he added.</p><p>KLETU Chancellor Prabhakar Kore asked students to focus more on becoming job-givers by taking up entrepreneurs. Those who forget their mother tongue and motherland do not become great, he said.</p><p><strong>CARR opened</strong></p><p>Centre for Automation and Robotics Research (CAAR), a Science & Technology Advanced Research (STAR) laboratory, was also inaugurated at the KLEU. </p><p>KLETU Pro-Chancellor Ashok Shettar said this is one of the eight STAR laboratories at the varsity which is heading towards becoming a research-oriented institute.</p><p>"Industry 4.0 is transforming the manufacturing sector, while IoT, AI, big data, robotics and automation are playing a major role. CARR will work towards advancing the frontiers of Industry 4.0," Dr Shettar added.</p><p>KLETU Vice-Chancellor Prakash Tewari, Registrar B S Anami, and others were present.</p>
