Dr B R Ambedkar’s thoughts and messages should reach every house. People should be sensitised on the contributions of Ambedkar, said Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy.

Speaking during the 128th Ambedkar Jayanti observed by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Social Welfare Department at the Old Fort Hall in Madikeri on Sunday, she said that Ambedkar stood for equal rights to all.

In his opinion, the downtrodden can progress with education. By introducing programmes for equal opportunities to women and development of workers, he strived for the formation of a strong India, said the deputy commissioner.

Zilla Panchayat CEO K Lakshmi Priya said that the Hindu Code Bill introduced by Dr B R Ambedkar ensured rights to women. He laid thrust on agriculture, power generation and irrigation.

The fundamental duties, rights and the directive principles of state policy are the major contributions of Ambedkar, provided to the citizens of India, through the Indian constitution, she added.

Additional Deputy Commissioner P Shivaraju and Social Welfare Department Deputy Director Bharati were present among others.

Floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar on the occasion.
