<p>Tumakuru: A family from Andhra Pradesh was cheated out of Rs 45 lakh in a gold scam near Antarasanahalli Industrial Area on the outskirts of Tumakuru.</p><p>Y Prasanna, from Chilakaluripet in Palanadu district, Andhra Pradesh, filed a complaint at Tumakuru Rural Police Station on Thursday after two fraudsters fled with the money. A case has been registered.</p><p>According to the complaint, Prasanna’s father Obalayya, a contractor, was approached by two unknown men about a year ago seeking work and obtaining their phone number. In May, the men called Prasanna’s family, claiming they had found gold in a farm while working as labourers but could not sell it themselves. They offered to sell the gold at a low price, but Obalayya was initially not interested.</p><p>On May 25, during a visit to Kukke Subrahmanya Temple, Prasanna got the men’s contact number from her father and called them. Later, they met at KB Cross near Tiptur. The fraudsters gave her a small piece of gold to verify, promising to sell more if it was genuine. Upon returning home, Prasanna confirmed the gold was real.</p><p>The fraudsters then offered to sell 1 kg of similar gold for Rs 60 lakh, later negotiating down to Rs 50 lakh. Prasanna arranged Rs 45 lakh by pledging gold ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh, contributing Rs 5 lakh of their own, and borrowing Rs 20 lakh from relatives.</p><p>On May 31, Prasanna and her husband Naresh went to Antarasanahalli Industrial Area with the money. The fraudsters displayed gold coins wrapped in cloth. However, when Naresh tested the coins, they were found to be fake. But the fraudsters fled with the money.</p><p>Despite searching, Prasanna and Naresh were unable to locate the suspects. Prasanna explained, “I delayed approaching the police keeping my family respect in mind. I informed my parents after some time, which caused the complaint to be filed late.”</p>
