<p>The Postgraduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) 2014 for MBA and MCA courses was held across the State on Monday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>There was an increase in the number of registrations for the exam with as many as 17,906 students registering this time. Among these, there were 12,575 registrations for MBA alone.<br /><br />This is the first time that the students are writing a single entrance test for admissions to MBA and MCA.<br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald, an MBA aspirant, Theertha Prasad, said the revised system benefited students a lot as they did not have to write multiple exams for different institutions. <br /><br />“The exam was very easy for students who had prepared for CMAT. Since I too had prepared for it, I found it easy,” he said.<br /><br />Nonetheless, since it was the first time, some students were confused about the process.<br /><br /> “There were some rural students who had attended the exam and they were confused about the exam timings. This requires awareness. <br /><br />It is not enough if they update it on the website alone,” said Kavya, another student who wrote the exam for MBA.<br /><br />The entrance test for both MBA and MCA were held in different sessions. While the MBA test was conducted from 11 am to 1 pm, the test for MCA was held from 3 pm to 5 pm.<br /> <br />The exam was conducted at 19 test centres across the State. The PGCET 2014 will be valid for both management and government seats. <br /><br />The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) will conduct counselling for government quota seats; for management quota seats, the institutions will conduct their own admissions based on the PGCET test score. <br /><br />The entrance test was held for about 20,000 seats. There are more than 130 colleges under the consortium. <br /><br />The results are expected on July 7 and the classes will commence on August 1. The seat matrix would be uploaded in due course of time, said a KEA official.<br /><br /></p>
