The ‘Save the government schools’ campaign has garnered the support of two lakh people.

The campaign’s promoter, Anil Shetty, said the support came in the form of missed phone calls. He was speaking to reporters along with the cast and crew of Kannada film ‘Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shale-Kasargod’, which deals with the closure of government schools, on Thursday.

Shetty has been spearheading a campaign against the closure of government schools. This came after the government announced that over 3,000 schools with enrolments of less than 30 would be “merged” with other schools.

Rishab Shetty, the director of the movie, said there were several false notions pertaining to government schools but many from such institutions had achieved great things in life. “I wish to highlight the issue through this film,” he added.
