Last Updated 26 February 2014, 19:49 IST

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested two members of an Irani gang, Sameer Syed, 26, and Asadulla Jaffrey, 30, both from Mumbai, and booked them under the Goonda Act.

The duo were known for diverting the attention of women and committing robbery. They formed a gang along with other Iranians and continued to pose as policemen, cook up stories, drag women into conversation before robbing them of their gold ornaments. They would commit a series of robberies in a day and vanish, police said.

The police had arrested the other members of the gang on December 4, 2013, and reportedly recovered gold chains weighing 400 gram. The gang was involved in 14 chain-snatching cases, especially in the west division of the City. Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar ordered that the suspects be booked under the Goonda Act.
