Mizhab, a student of Al-Ameen College, says, “I love Shah Rukh Khan. I am a huge fan of his and have always liked him, irrespective of how his movies are accepted at the box office. I watched his recent film ‘Happy New Year’ (HNY) and loved it.

I liked it mainly because of SRK. I have watched all his movies, in fact! Apart from ‘HNY’, the other movies that caught my interest this year are ‘Expendables 3’ and ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’. The movie I am looking forward to the coming year is ‘Don 3’.”

While movies will always be a source of entertainment, a great escape, audiences are no longer the mute spectators. With soaring expectations, the film industry has to cater to a variety of wants and needs. Bearing all this in mind, does the film industry manage to satiate the thirst of the viewer? Young college-goers talk about what they look forward to in a movie, and their favourites in the past year. With another year coming to an end, they also talk about the movie they are looking forward to watching the upcoming year.

The real picture
SanobaR Khan, a student at CMRIMS, says, “I loved the movie ‘Two States’ even though I felt that the book was better. I loved Alia Bhatt in the movie as she had done justice to the role of a South Indian girl. I love horror movies too. ‘Happy New Year’ is one of the worst movies that I watched this year. It had no storyline and was cluttered with too many actors. I want to see some reality in the movies that will inspire us as an audience.”

Movers n’ shakers
MujiB Choori, a student of Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology, says, “I am mad about dance. I do B-boying, hip-hop and freestyle. I love to watch any movie that is related to dancing as it inspires me. The movies that caught my attention this year were ‘The Shaukeens’ and ‘Entertainment’. And the movie that I am looking forward to the coming year is ‘ABCD2’. The works of Hrithik Roshan and Jacqueline Fernandes are worth the watch. Hopefully, one day I will be able to act in a movie with many dance sequences.”

The space route
MohammeD Maaz, a student of Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College, says, “The best movie that I watched this year is ‘Interstellar’. It was just brilliant! It shows how to adapt to the future and also portrays the many challenges that one has to face. I like the works of Christopher Nolan. It is very rare that I watch Bollywood movies as they are mostly remakes and also have the same storyline. I am looking forward to more unconventional movies the coming year.”

Breaking the norm
KhatijaH Sharieff a student of St Joseph’s College of Commerce, says, “I loved ‘Gone Girl’. I watched it twice. I watch films for entertainment, so ‘Interstellar’ was a disappointment. Coming to Bollywood, ‘Haider’ was a one-time watch. ‘Highway’ is one of the best movies I have watched and I liked Alia in this movie. I want to watch movies that break away from normal love stories.”
