Alert immigration officials nabbed two Bangladeshi nationals trying to fly to Kuala Lumpur from the Kempegowda International Airport on Indian passports on Thursday.
Mohammed Zakir and Karimul Gazi confessed to the Bureau of Immigration sleuths that they had crossed into West Bengal through the porous border with help from an agent in 2012 and went to Goa. They worked as labourers there and were put up at Bardez, they confessed.
Through their contacts, Zakir and Gazi approached Jagadish Chandra, the managing director of Grace Education Centre in Panaji, who offered them educational certificates for Rs 1.5 lakh each.
The accused paid the money and got the certificates, and also managed to get Aadhaar cards, saying they are residents of Panaji. Using the fake certificates, they applied for passports in January 2019 with the intention of flying to Malaysia for employment.
The airport police booked Zakir and Gazi and Chandra under various sections of the Passport Act and also under appropriate sections of the Foreigners Act. Further investigations are underway.
