<p>Bengaluru: In a significant development, the BBMP has increased the stilt height of buildings from 2.4 metres to 4.5 metres, and this will not be included in the overall building height. While the policy aims to encourage the adoption of multi-level mechanical car parking on premises, there is a possibility that the non-habitable stilt area may be converted into commercial or residential units.</p>.<p>In his budget speech, BBMP’s Special Commissioner, Harish Kumar, noted: “It is common for residents to park their vehicles on the roadside near their homes, which hinders road widening projects aimed at improving traffic flow. To address this issue, BBMP has taken a revolutionary step by increasing the stilt height to 4.5 metres.”</p>.BBMP allocates Rs 400 crore to make Outer Ring Road 'world-class’ .<p>The BBMP also announced that the entire 4.5 metres will be considered as single car parking.</p>.<p>Experts warned that the rule is prone to misuse. “The stilt space of 2.4 metres has been fixed as a inhabitable place requires a minimum of 2.7 metres of height between the floor and the ceiling. With the BBMP announcing the increase of stilt space height, there is a possibility that it will be misused,” Suhas Ananth Rajkumar, a resident of CV Raman Nagar said. </p>
