Bellandur residents form human chain

Last Updated 28 October 2018, 02:52 IST

Close to ten thousand Bellandur residents formed a large human chain across the locality demanding better infrastructure on Saturday morning.

Home to a lot of IT companies, Bellandur is one of the highest tax paying locality in the city. However, the residents here are deprived of basic infrastructures like good roads and water supply.

The human chain was formed from Bellandur Central to Outer Ring road junction, from Outer Ring Road junction to Carmelaram and from Carmelaram to Doddakannalli.

“This is not an overnight demand. We have been doing this for the past six months on a small scale. This time with the help of more than 60 resident welfare associations including Kasavanahalli Development Forum, Chikkanayakanahalli forum, Doddakannelli Rising, Haralur Forum we have gathered together and created a movement," said Vishnu Prasad, President, Kasavanahalli Development Forum.

"During last year this locality has paid close to Rs 770 crore as tax, but we have received only Rs 70 crore worth of infrastructure projects which is still not implemented. We want the government to push it forward,” said Prasad.

The representatives met the Chief Secretary TM Vijaybhaskar on Saturday and have submitted a letter demanding the BBMP to implement better infrastructure facilities. “He has agreed to look into the issue,” said Prasad.
